Population Surveillance
Larval Surveillance
Inspectors check bodies of stagnant water for larval activity prior to applying control measures. They either use a dipper or are able to asses the larval situation by site. Larval survey and treatment is performed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Adult Surveillance
Landing Rate Counts: Inspectors measure the amount of mosquito activity by counting the number of mosquitoes that land in a specific time frame on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. LRC's are done 3 days a week and are an important gage of mosquito biting activity. There are 188 LRC sites spread throughout the county.

Light Trap: CDC Light Traps are set each Monday to monitor adult populations. The mosquitoes are identified to species and these results are used in making decisions on operation activities. There are 54 light traps set throughout the county. Each trap is set for 24 hours and baited with an attractant called Octenol. Octenol is a synthetic version of ox breath and is very attractive to mosquitoes.
