HEARTWORM PREVENTION  

ü   Heartworm is passed from dog to dog by mosquitoes  

ü   Caused by a nematode or worm call Dirofilaria immitus and lives in the dogs heart

Symptoms

 §      Can take up to a year for symptoms to appear

§      Coughing, labored breathing, tiring easily, general weakness

§      Damages the heart and liver

Prevention

ü   Talk with your veterinarian about giving your dog hearthworm preventative medication

ü   Keep your dogs away from mosquitoes at peak mosquito activity times (dusk/dawn)
