| Rain
Gauge |
| AMCD has rain gauges set up
throughout the county to measure the amount of rainfall in the different
areas of the county. This data allows the district to target areas of
heavy rainfall and direct larviciding activities. Rain gauges are checked
on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. |
| Tidal
Surveillance |
| AMCD currently
operates two tidal gauges to monitor the tides in different areas of the
county. This information allows AMCD to target control efforts of the
saltwater mosquitoes. Tidal gauges are checked on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays. |
| Temperature,
Wind and Daylight Surveillance |
| Mosquitoes
growth rate and activity is controlled by temperature and hours of
daylight. Growth rates and activity is highest when temperatures and
humidity are high. Mosquito populations are also highest when
daylight is longer than night. AMCD monitors all of these factors in
determining larviciding and adulticiding operations. |
