Mosquitoes are
insects with two wings. There are over 3,000 different species of
mosquitoes found in the world; 77 species found in Florida. Forty-three species have been found
in St. Johns County. There are 42-43 species of mosquitoes
in
St. Johns
County, each of which has a different habitat, behavior and preferred source of
blood. About 10 of these species are most common and are vicious biters of
man and animals in our county. Mosquitoes are not only a nuisance as
biting insects, but are also involved periodically in transmitting
diseases to humans and animals.
